Job Description
The Host Catering is a well‑established South Asian culinary and catering provider serving the Greater Toronto Area. Operating from its fully equipped commercial kitchen at 10 East Wilmot Street in Richmond Hill, the company specializes in high‑quality take out and large‑scale event catering for corporate functions, weddings, and private gatherings. The business urgently requires 2 qualified Sous Chefs to support its busy take‑out and catering operations. This role is essential for maintaining food quality, overseeing kitchen staff, ensuring timely preparation for events
Job Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the cooks, and kitchen staff
- Assist the Executive Chef in planning, preparing and executing daily menus as per the restaurant’s style and standards.
- Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty Indian dishes
- Demonstrate new cooking techniques to kitchen staff
- Participate in menu planning, costing, and ordering of food and supplies
- Ensure food quality, portion control, and presentation standards
- Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies, and equipment
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace health standards
- Train staff in food preparation, cooking, and handling
- Manage waste reduction and ensure efficient use of ingredients.
- Oversee kitchen operations in the absence of the Executive Chef
Job Requirements
- Completion of secondary school
- Diploma or Apprenticeship in Culinary Arts, or several years of experience specializing in Indian cuisine
- 1-2 years of commercial cooking experience, including supervisory responsibilities
- Cook’s trade certification or equivalent training and experience
- Red Seal endorsement is an asset
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
